Background
Alcohol is a significant contributor to most health conditions and places a burden on hospital resources. Alcohol specialist services in acute hospitals provide integrated alcohol treatment pathways across primary, secondary, and social care.
The Post Holder:
Will develop and maintain a specialist nurse led alcohol liaison service for patients presenting to the ED Department or inpatient departments of Sligo University Hospital who have substance misuse problems. As lead specialist in alcohol and other drug misuse, assesses patients with substance misuse needs, and provide specialist advice and guidance relating to their management, care and onward pathways within the hospital and community.
Alcohol Forum Ireland is leading the development of this service in partnership and collaboration with a local multi agency steering group and all key stakeholders. The service is supported by the Social Inclusion Unit of the HSE.
