Communities rally support for Public Health Alcohol Bill – The Phoenix (04 Nov 16) exposes intensive lobbying of senators by the alcohol industry
Local communities across the country are fighting back against the lobbying force of ‘Big Alcohol’ before senators vote on the Public Health (Alcohol) Bill. Amid growing fears that key health elements of the Bill will be watered down in response to pressure from major players in the alcohol industry, communities have begun to lobby their local politicians to show public support for the Bill.
This week alone Community Action on Alcohol Project groups have sent over 100 emails and made numerous calls to their elected representatives. Over the coming weeks groups hope to meet with politicians in their local areas and ensure that the voices of local communities across the country are heard.
