“Addressing Malnutrition in Alcohol Use Disorders – with a special focus on Thiamine Deficiency and Wernickes-Korsakoffs Syndrome”
Date: 14th March 2022
Time: 14:00 – 15:00 (GMT)
Place: Zoom
The devastating and disabling impact of Wernickes-Korsakoffs Syndrome makes prevention of this condition a key priority.
Malnutrition is often under-recognised but an important contributory cause of Wernickes Encephalopathy, Korsakoffs Amnesic Syndrome and other forms of Alcohol-Related Brain Injury.
This webinar will explore the identification and management of malnutrition in high risk populations and address best practice prevention. It will host a range of international speakers including Professor Leah Gramlach (Gastroenterologist, Physician Nutrition Specialist – University of Alberta), Dr Helen McMonagle (Alcohol Forum Ireland), Dr Kaanthan Jawathar (Consultant Psychiatrist – UK) and Elaine Neary (Clinical Specialist Dietician in Gastroenterology – Ireland)
It will be of interest to anyone working in the addiction, acute, homelessness, nutrition, disability or residential sector. We will be launching a new resource “Thiamine, Healthy Eating and Me – Reduce Your Risk of Developing Alcohol-Related Brain Injury”. We would love if you could join us on the day and please feel free to circulate to colleagues. Registration details below.
